I have a dream!
maybe im thinking a little too hard but, i dont think this is something to laugh at. This child’s dream is to work alongside their mother. to do the hard work [because in all reality it is the janitors, the factory workers, those in food service who face the REAL stress. moreso than the the CEO. yeah, i said it] that they see their mother participating in. it sounds like Ashanta is holding their mother in a high esteem [being as it’s their “dream”] and i dont think there’s anything wrong with that.
if one is laughing because it’s a dream that is not “ambitious” i would argue against that too. one can guess that Ashanta is a child of color, and vowing to one day have a place of employment while occupying their body IS ambitious to be quite frank [assuming this is a cisfemale child of color, but these are assumptions im trying to keep from making concrete]. to not only want to have employment [because they couldve said another of TRULY frivolous things] but to also maintain a familial relationship that society constantly tries to destroy within families of color [racially motivated DHS, CPS, social workers, etc] is monumental.
this child’s dream is to WORK with their MOTHER.
i think thats beautiful.
fuck anyone for laughing at it.i really love your break down. thank you.
I dont know why people enjoy mocking children so much. Every child is deemed sweet and innocent - but if they’re marked as a child of color from a working class background it’s a free for all? Hm ok.
A university in Georgia is bleeding faculty after adding a new section to employee contracts last October. The “Personal Lifestyle Statement” requires employees to reject homosexuality, premarital sex, adultery, drug use and public drinking near campus. It also mandates that staff be active in a local church.
In an anonymous survey in April, only 12 percent of faculty and staff said that they planned to stay at Shorter University, a 139-year-old Baptist school, reports Inside Higher Ed. More than 50 resigned before the new contracts were even distributed, and certain departments, such as science and fine arts, have been “eviscerated,” according to Michael Wilson, a tenured librarian for the university who’s worked there for 14 years.
Damn, well…now you know what to do if you ever want almost everyone in your workforce to quit.
haha. hahahaha. that backfired.

Men who want to flirt with women have to realize: Women live in a state of continual vigilance about sexual safety. It’s like having a mild case of hay fever that never goes away. It’s not debilitating. You’re not weak. You’re not afraid. You just suck it up and get on with your life. It’s nothing that’s going to stop you from making discoveries, or climbing mountains, or falling in love. Sometimes you can almost forget about it. It doesn’t mean it’s not there, subtly sucking your energy. You learn to avoid situations that make it worse and seek out conditions that make it better.
If a female stranger is wary around you, it is not because she suspects you are a rapist, or that all men are rapists. It’s because a general level of circumspection is what vigilance requires. Don’t take it personally.
If this frustrates you, try to remember that women are blamed for lapsed vigilance. If a woman does get raped, everyone rushes to see where she let her guard down. Was she drinking? Was she alone? Was she wearing a short skirt? Did she go to a strange man’s room for coffee at 4am?
A woman must be seen to be vigilant as well as be vigilant. If she is deemed insufficiently vigilant, she will be at least partly blamed for any sexual violence that befalls her. If she’s regarded as downright reckless, that “evidence” can be used to completely exonerate her rapist. If it comes down to a he said/she said dispute over whether sex was consensual, as so many rape cases do, the dispute becomes a referendum on whether the woman seems like the sort of reckless person who would have sex with a stranger.
If a woman does go back to a strange man’s hotel room at 4am, even if she only wants a coffee and conversation, she’s more or less given him the power to rape her. No jury is going to believe she went up there for anything but sex. So, don’t be surprised if a stranger reacts badly to that suggestion.

I wish I didn’t need to reblog stuff like this. I wish people *got it*. But judging from the ridiculous response to these posts, stuff like this clearly still needs to be repeated.

You’re either loose, (some young girls of color are just automatically marked “fast” as soon as their bodies develop) or a stuck up bitch.
Either way your sexuality, or how others want to decide what your sexuality is, is the main factor that determines how human others want to treat you…

… the same way you’d date any other human being.
I think some people should fucking recognize…jus sayin.
If you let one (truant student) run loose, what are you gonna’ do with the rest of ‘em? Let them go too?
–Houston judge Lanny Moriarty • On his decision to sentence a 17-year-old honor student, who (since her parents divorced and both skipped town) has had to work both a full and a part time job just to support two siblings, to spend a day in jail, after she missed school recently. Diane Tran, who also takes dual-credit college-level courses, says that she’s often so tired that she finds it difficult to wake up for school. But that didn’t sway Moriarty, who chose to make an example of Tran. If you think this sucks, we direct you to this Change.org petition.
To the parents and judge; What The Fuck??
